  • An old, method of making caramel pudding calls for heating an unopened can of
  • sweetened condensed milk in a kettle of boiling water. This method of is a dan-
  • gerous practice because heat causes expansion. If any unopened can is heated
  • in boiling water the can may explode. This could cause serious damage to the
  • kitchen or injury to anyone in the area.
  • To safe way is to preheat the oven to 425 degrees; open a 14 ounce can of
  • sweetened condensed milk and pour contents into a pie plate. Cover pie plate
  • with aluminum foil; place in a shallow pan of hot water and bake for 1 hour, or
  • until thick and slightly caramel colored. Remove the foil, cook, then chill before
  • serving.
