An old, method of making caramel pudding calls for heating an unopened can of
sweetened condensed milk in a kettle of boiling water. This method of is a dan-
gerous practice because heat causes expansion. If any unopened can is heated
in boiling water the can may explode. This could cause serious damage to the
kitchen or injury to anyone in the area.
To safe way is to preheat the oven to 425 degrees; open a 14 ounce can of
sweetened condensed milk and pour contents into a pie plate. Cover pie plate
with aluminum foil; place in a shallow pan of hot water and bake for 1 hour, or
until thick and slightly caramel colored. Remove the foil, cook, then chill before
serving.
