Place whole cucumber in a glass or stoneware jar. Cover with boiling water and
let stand overnight. Drain.
Repeat three times, three days with boiling water.
On fifth day drain and slice cucumbers in 1/2 in. pieces. Combine sugar, spices,
salt and vinegar - bring to boil and pour over cucumbers.
Let stand for 2 days. On third day, bring to a boil and pack in hot jars and seal.
Yields about 7 pints.
