Treasure Chest Bars

Instructions
 

  • Bake at 325 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes.

Sift together:

  • 2 cups sifted flour
  • 1 1/2 t. baking powder
  • 1/2 t. salt

Cream together:

  • 1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter

Blend in:

  • 2 unbeaten eggs
  • 1 t. vanilla
  • Beat until fluffy

Add:

  • dry ingredients alternately with 3/4 cup milk;
  • Begin and end with dry ingredients.
  • Blend well after each addition.

Stir in:

  • 1 cup salted nuts, broken
  • 1 cup maraschino cherries, halved and drained
  • 6 oz. Semi-sweet chocolate morsels

Turn:

  • Into 15 x 10 X 1 inch pan, greased and floured. Bake

Frosting:

  • Brown 1/4 cup butter until deep brown.
  • Remove from heat.
  • Blend in 2 cup sifted powdered sugar and 1/2 t. vanilla flavoring.
  • Add 2 T. milk.
  • Beat until smooth.
